Peter Seychell is a local, self-taught artist who took to painting again in the last five years. While trained as a draughtsman, he spent his professional life working in the pharmaceutical industry, from which he is now semi-retired.

He first exhibited his work in a joint exhibition held in 2022 with local artist Carmel Bonello. Titled ‘Nuances’, this exhibition was held at Gemelli Gallery in December. This collaboration came about at the insistence of Bonello, whom Seychell considers one of his mentors. ‘Nuances’ was curated by Joseph Agius. Seychell’s first solo exhibition titled ‘Baħħ ‘was curated by the late Mark Mallia and was held at Gemelli Gallery in July 2023. Peter’s second solo exhibition ‘Room for Speculation’ was curated by Melanie Erixon and was held at Il-Kamra ta Fuq in Mqabba throughout February 2024.

Although new in the artistic field, Seychell has been relatively prolific. He has been exploring two genres of painting, one that is more detailed than the other with the constant being the portrayal of a dreamt-up, surreal world, which he considers a platform from which he can highlight the environmental plight of Malta and the world in general.
